According to the American Pet Products Association, 40 percent of the pet owners surveyed in 2018 said that they took their dogs on vacation with them. Are you thinking of joining their ranks and bringing your beloved fur baby on your next trip? Then, make sure to pack these four items in your car before you hit the road.

Bring Water and a Bowl

Don't assume that water will be easily available when you're on the road. There are some lonely stretches of road where you might drive for many miles before you'll find a place to get water for your pet. You will also need a travel bowl. Traditional bowls are likely to spill or get stepped in by your pet while you're driving. Travel bowls, on the other hand, are designed to be spill-proof.

A Tie-Out Is Important

There may be a time or two during your road trip where you'll need to tie your pup up. For example, let's say you're staying in a cabin in the woods. You'll want to keep your dog tied up safely while you're bringing suitcases and your supplies in or out of your cabin.

Make Sure Your Dog Has ID

It's scary to think about your pet getting lost in strange surroundings, but, unfortunately, it can happen to even the most careful of pet owners. That's why it's important that your dog is microchipped and is also wearing a tag with your up-to-date information on it.

Use a Pet Safety Belt

For your pup's safety and that of the other occupants in the car, it's always a good idea to keep your pet under control while driving. A safety harness protects your pup from flying forward if you have to stop suddenly, and it also prevents a dog from interfering with the driver.

When you're not on the road with your beloved fur baby, your pet deserves to live in a wonderful apartment. So, if your current home is subpar, please come and check out our beautiful, pet-friendly apartments in Chicago, Illinois, located in the heart of Lincoln Park. In addition to being dog-friendly, our community also features on-site restaurants.

At our pet-friendly Chicago, IL apartments, we love the pooches that are part of our community. With summer upon us, we know that pet owners are itching for exciting ways to have fun with their four-legged friends. If this sounds like you, here are a few ideas to help keep your pet safe as summer gets going.

Don't Hike or Camp Off-Leash

It's only natural that you'd want your dog to enjoy nature the way you do, but there are a lot of hidden dangers in the Great Outdoors that can harm your pup. If you take your dog for a weekend away from the city, he'll be tempted to drink water from unsavory places and frolic in the foliage he's not used to when he's in Chicago. If he's not tended to, he might pick up intestinal worms, ticks or other unwanted problems that can cause you a lot of worries (and money) when you return from your restful respite. Keep Water With You at All Times

Lots of places around the city will offer water for Fido, but you don't want to assume that's a given. When you take your dog for a walk, bring a bottle of water and a collapsible water bowl so you can hydrate him if he starts to get overheated.

Steer Clear of Fireworks

Between baseball games, Independence Day, and a number of other celebrations that occur during the summer months, fireworks are par for the course. While you may want to enjoy these festivities with your best friend, you'll actually be doing her a disservice if you take your dog to places where there's an overabundance of people and loud noises.

Fireworks are amplified in the sensitive ears of animals. At best, they'll be scared. At worst, they might actually suffer hearing damage.

Take Pet-Specific Treats to Cookouts

It's so tempting to look at those begging puppy dog eyes and find a people-treat that'll make him happy — but don't do it. Make it very clear to other guests, too, that your dog isn't to be fed scraps. Ribs, chicken and other seemingly innocent foods can actually harm your dog if they have spices, bones or elements that aren't suitable for pets.

Are you looking for a pet-friendly apartment community that offers beautiful views and tons of amenities? You've found your new home! Stop by The Belden-Stratford, and let us show you around!

CatIt can be tough to carve out space for pets in Chicago apartments, but there are a variety of ways to make your cat or dog feel special. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Invest in a Doggy or Kitty Condo

Sometimes your four-legged roommate may need a quiet place of their own. For dogs, numerous crates and kennels fit the bill. Simply cover them with fabric to provide a quiet haven for your dog or cat. For example, a decorative throw rug quickly transforms a wiry cage into a fashion statement. If you're the creative type, consider decorating the area you choose with animal-themed artwork and accents for a finished look. For a special touch, add a cute bowl where you can leave treats to attract your pet to the space.

Create a Napping Zone

If you have a puppy or older animal, a snuggly bed makes life a lot cozier for your pet. This is especially encouraged if you have wood or tile floors. Set the bed at the end of the sofa or in the kitchen to keep it out of main traffic areas but still in the middle of the action. This is a great way to encourage pets to stay off your furniture.

Safety Zone from Kids and Other Pets

You may have a toddler or a second pet that's a little more energetic than your older dog or cat, who may need a quiet retreat of their own. Consider creating a space for them in the bedroom. It doesn't have to be an all-the-time thing, but your older pet will appreciate some occasional alone time to recoup their energy and relax.

Keep It Simple

If you don't have the time to fancy up a nook or corner, cozy throw rugs are animal magnets. Simply bring one home and spread it out in a corner, then time how many seconds it takes your pet to claim it as their own.

PuppyOur pets always greet us with a wagging tail when we come home, and they always show us the love we need. Although our pets make any home or apartment that much more enjoyable, they can leave some unwanted messes and provide some headaches from time to time. Especially in apartment living, there are a few things we can do to limit the stress for both us and our pets. In this post, we’ll discuss five pet tips for your apartment.

Develop a Bathroom Routine

A set routine always works best for your pet’s bathroom schedule. That being said, it’s a great idea to take your pet on a potty break at the same time every day. In addition, make sure to have them do their business at the same location around your apartment community.

Consider Renters’ Pet Insurance

Especially if you have a new puppy that is still getting used to potty training, renters’ pet insurance might be a good option for you. Pets can leave stains on carpets that are hard to get out, and pets might even cause other damage. If your pet tends to be destructive, pet insurance might be a good idea.

Think About Your Pet’s Personality

Some pets prefer to stay indoors a lot, and some pets love to run around outside multiple times a day. When you first understand the personality of your pet, you can ensure that your pet lives their best life at your apartment.

Make Sure Your Pet Exercises

If you live in an apartment with your pet, it’s vital that you take them outside often to exercise. Given you don’t have a home with a yard, taking them to the park to run around should be a top priority.

Purchase Comfy Beds

While some pets don’t like beds, most pets love them. To provide the comfort your pet deserves, head over to the nearest store and purchase a comfortable bed. Especially if your pet lays around for most of the day, a bed will keep them comfortable and happy.

If you’re searching for Chicago apartments for you and your pet, then don’t hesitate to call The Belten-Stratford today!
